Autocross

Our Autocross program is the best in Atlanta and the perfect environment to explore the amazing handling of your Porsche. Each event features a new and unique course marked out with cones with each driver having 10 runs to set the fastest time that they can through the course. We run 7 events through the year from March/April to November at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

We are fortunate to be sponsored by two amazing companies, Four Hats Inc and Kelly's Automotive Repair

What Do I Need To Autocross?

Whilst a helmet is required to drive, we do have loaner helmets available, so all you need to get started is a car! We provide water for participants during the day, but there is no lunch break, so bring refreshments. There's also very little shade, so come prepared for the weather (we run rain or shine!)

What Can I Expect?

When you arrive at Atlanta Motor Speedway you'll park up and come to the trailer to check-in. After that you can move your car to the grid, prepare it for the simple tech inspection and then go and walk the course (this is essential!). A mandatory drivers meeting will be held at about 9am which will explain how the day works and answer any questions.

We split the drivers into 2 run groups. Each run group will drive 5 runs and then switch to working the course. This gives you a chance to observe how other people drive and think about areas you might improve.

Wait, I Have To Work!?!

Yes, unfortunately those cones that get hit need to be set back in their place. There are various 'jobs' that are assigned by the registrar, the most common is a corner worker who is responsible for picking up downed cones. If you have a genuine reason you can't work a corner, let us know at registration time and we have some other less physical jobs.

Frequently Asked Questions

No! Your Porsche is more than capable of driving through a parking lot at up to 60mph without breaking. The cones we use are not hard plastic and are not secured to the track in any way, so even if you hit one it will just be pushed out of the way with no damage to your car. You will be turning aggressively on the course, so tire wear will be higher than road driving, so you may end up changing tires once a year.

Yes, you will be racing against the clock. So this is not wheel to wheel racing and even though there will be more than one car on course at a time, they will be separated by a minimum of 20 seconds.

There are two types of penalties; a cone penalty for hitting a cone that was standing up and knocking it out of its box is 2 seconds added to your time. If you miss a gate then that's a Did Not Finish or DNF and your time won't be counted for that run.

Yes! Just be sure to add the other driver as a co-driver and have them register with you as their co-driver so we know to put you in two different run groups. One of you will be working the course while the other one is driving.

Yes! It's free to watch, just come down and sign the waiver. Talk to some of the drivers and maybe even ride along with one or two. Then head home and sign up for the next event!

The starter controls the modified traffic light that we use to signal drivers when they are clear to run the course. A RED light means move into starting position but do not go. Once the light turns GREEN the driver is clear to run the course. He coordinates with the timer and the corner workers to ensure the course is ready and in a green condition. A GREEN course means that the course is clear and safe for the next car to run

You'll need at least your lunch and weather appropriate clothing as well as an alarm clock to get you up and down to Atlanta Motor Speedway between 8 and 8:30am to sign in. Make sure that your car is in good technical shape. We will perform an informal and brief tech inspection on the day, but we aren't equipped to fix any issues you might have. Make certain that your car does not have a loose battery, loose wheel bearings, bad ball joints, or tire treads worn too thin, or worn timing belts. Looking after these things will give you the best chance at having a trouble-free autocross experience. It is your responsibility to ensure that your car is safe to compete in an Autocross event.
