Wolf Mountain Winery Tours 2022

Last Updated: 04/04/2022, 11:12:28

The Wolf Mountain Winery Tours are always popular, so two tours were scheduled again this year with the first being Friday 3/25 and the second on Saturday 3/26. We were fortunate to have clear skies both days, although Saturday was a bit cooler and much windier than Friday.

Both tours started with Gateway Classic Cars hosting indoor sign-in and providing coffee to help get the morning started. After signing PCA waivers participants were free to walk through the show room and warehouse to look at the cars on consignment. There are 200 or so cars on display, so it covers many eras and makes. This helped fill the time between sign-in and our safety briefing. On Saturday Gateway was hosting a Caffeine and Chrome event, so there was even more going on. I should probably mention that on July 30 Peachstate PCA will be the featured car club at Gateway Classic Cars’ Caffeine and Chrome.

After our visit at Gateway Classic Cars we drove up to Wolf Mountain Winery using a route which took us through Ball Ground using GA 372, then onto GA 53 to Dawsonville to GA 9 to Dahlonega, and finally up to the winery. This route provides some very nice scenery, and mostly low traffic roads so we could just cruise along without lots of stops.

Upon arrival at Wolf Mountain Winery we were greeted by Karl Boegner and his staff. The buffet meal was excellent as always and Karl described the wines which won top honors at a recent San Francisco contest during which 2,900 wines were judged. The Wolf Mountain winners included Best in Show Sparkling as well as Best Blanc de Blanc. In the red wine competition the Claret Estate won Best Premium Non-Bordeaux Blend, and a Double Gold medal.

At the lunch Friday Haggerty Insurance gave Peachstate PCA a Coolest Car Club trophy for our Drive Towards A Cure charity tour in which we raised $5,300 in support of the Parkinson’s Disease Comprehensive Care Clinic at Emory Udall Parkinson’s Disease Center in Atlanta.

Following lunch Karl graciously took us on a tour of his car collection, which includes the 356 previously owned by Olivia Newton John, a rare notch back, several speedsters, a 912, a speed yellow turbo, and other cars. He explained the significance of each to the delight of everyone present.
