Intro to HPDE

Last Updated: 11/23/2024, 14:40:38

HPDE
So, you have heard about fellow members taking their cars to the track and participating in a  High-Performance Driver Education (HPDE)   . Not only are they having a blast but they are learning about the dynamics of car control and how to stay safe in a track environment. We do not restrict these events to just Porsches so if you have a different marque in your stable, you are welcome to bring it. Your curiosity has been piqued and now it is time to get the wheels rolling.

Registering For The Event

HPDE

Go to  ClubRegistration.net   and create an account if you do not already have one.

Log in and search for the event in which you would like to participate. Answer the questions and pay the fee. You will be asked to sign the waiver and then receive a text to confirm your signature.

Once an instructor is confirmed for the event for you, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a  Tech Inspection form

Before The Event

Tech

You must have a shop complete the tech inspection  prior to the event.

The only additional equipment that you will need to purchase is a helmet with the appropriate SA rating. (SA2015 or SA2020)

You will also need numbers on your car doors. You can order them or simply use painter's tape in a contrasting color.

The week prior to the event, you will receive information addressing what to do when you arrive at the track.

When You Arrive

HPDE
Once you arrive at the track, you will check in at Registration.
HPDE
Then, find a spot in the paddock to unload your car and take your car to Tech for an at-track inspection.
HPDE
We all gather for a mandatory drivers meeting at the start of the day where you'll meet your instructor for the first time and get any last minute information to help you enjoy the day. After that, let the fun ensue.
HPDE
During the drivers meeting you'll also learn the etiquette for passing on the track. You do not have to worry about cars flying by you on track. They must wait for you to point them by and this happens only on certain parts of the track.
As a group 1 driver you will have:
  • Scheduled classroom where you will learn about car dynamics, safety and track etiquette
  • A personal instructor that will be in your passenger seat whenever you are on track

At The End of the Day

HPDE
Peachstate PCA HPDEs often feature a social on Saturday night. These events give you a great opportunity to meet other drivers and see how we are one big happy track family. Other drivers will go out of their way to help you when you need it.
HPDE
Remember, everyone at the event had their first time so they know how you are feeling. Initially, you may be nervous and overwhelmed but that goes away quickly after you see how much fun our events can be. So, quit just thinking about it and find out what you have been missing by signing up for the next event. You will be happy you did.
See you at the track!
