I want to thank all those who showed up for the Coker Tire Museum Tour in spite of the predicted rain. There were several first time participants among the 69 people in 36 cars which signed in and made the drive up to Chattanooga. Yes we did get a bit of rain, although not nearly as much as predicted. We also drove through cloud cover on top of Lookout Mountain, which unfortunately prevented us seeing the truly amazing views off Lookout Mountain, especially in the area where the hang gliders launch just above Trenton. In spite of that everyone seemed to enjoy the route.
I think a few folks were surprised to find out that the Coker Tire Museum was populated with classic cars and motor cycles, and even a couple of airplanes, not tires. However, everyone was impressed by several things. First they had water and snacks setup for us upon our arrival. Second, Wade Kawasaki was there to greet us as host upon our arrival. Wade is the President of Coker Tire and CEO of SEMA, and a car aficionado for many years. Third, we were in for a real treat as Steve Anderson, our tour guide, showed us around the museum consisting of classic cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and even a couple modern sports cars. His knowledge was truly impressive. His credentials included being a contributing car magazine author, running Honest Charley’s, as well as having been associated with the museum for several years. So, it was really no surprise that he had such unique knowledge to add to our experience.
Following our tour we drove over to the Chattanooga Choo Choo where folks could choose among the three restaurants available for our late lunch. This socialization after the tour allowed folks to get to know each other.
