On Sunday, June 8th Peachstate held the first rally of the summer. The rally started at the Publix on Bethelview Road in Cumming and concluded at Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) in Dawsonville. Mother Nature was very kind and provided a beautiful day for rallying on the scenic and winding roads of north Georgia. We had 17 teams run the rally with most participating in Tour class. Scott Perkins wrote this rally and he certainly did a great job, as evident with the generous applause from all participating teams. This was Scott's first rally that he has written for Peachstate and we are all very thankful for his time, effort and participation. All teams that finished at AMP enjoyed barbeque from Big D's BBQ and some great conversation.
Our hosts for the conclusion of the rally were the fantastic folks at AMP. They arranged for guided laps of their circuit, "home of the 100MPH lunch". Both Randy Jennings and Jeremy Porter of AMP were more than gracious and it made a perfect conclusion to a great day of driving. As always we couldn't have any events without volunteers, so one HUGE thank you to all, including Lewis ( I will lead you all around the track) Broyles, Faisal Aly, Danny and Kathy Saxton, Bob Kuchenbecker, Maureen Ringler, Tom Albee, Ira (I will navigate for someone who needs it) Ferguson and both, Amy and Kylie Kremer. Also, we can't forget the talented George Pearl, who not only took the pictures, but ran the rally as well!
The overall winners of the rally were Jack and Kathy Baker in SOP, with a mind bogglingly low score of 41! First place winners in Tour class were Bob and Bonnie Clark. (See you in SOP class at Rennfest guys!) Coming in 5th place in Tour class was father/son team of Chad Smith and his 9 year old, Mason. Look out everyone, Mason is a natural, so we are going to have some great competition!
