Meandering to the Museum
Peachstate’s first rally of the year was held April 6th and it was held
in conjunction with the tour to see the Coker Museum in Chattanooga.
Participants in the rally were able to enjoy some fabulous North
Georgia roads on a day that could only be described as perfect. People
just going on the tour met up with rally participants in Calhoun for
lunch.
The rally started at the Publix parking lot near I-75 and Highway 92
and worked its way north to end in Calhoun for lunch and awards. These
were roads made for a Porsche and they included some incredible views
of the North Georgia countryside and even included passage over a one
lane bridge. There was one especially tricky intersection that was on
both leg 2 and leg 3. Only a couple of teams completed the section
without ending up at the Off Course Control (OCC) staffed by Jack
Baker. Jack must have been so friendly that some teams saw him on both
leg 2 and leg 3!
Tour class was won by Bryan Jefferies and Elena Wilson who showed that
they have what it takes to move up to Seat of the Pants (SOP) class.
They had three single digit legs, and that is a feat no matter what
class you are running. SOP class was won by Chris and Barbara Gellner ,
one of the few teams that didn’t see Jack Baker during the rally.
Another note: this was my first time as Rally Master and this rally
couldn’t have been held without all of the workers who helped staff the
checkpoints: Amy Kremer, Jack and Kathy Baker, Dick Kjellsen, Lewis
Broyles, David Ulfik, Tom Albee and even our President Andrew Douglas.
I also have to give extremely special thanks to Jack and Kathy Baker
who helped check the rally over and over and gave me tons of advice on
how to run a successful rally. I think that all of the smiling faces
after the rally was over are testament to how the rally went. Last
note: Now that I am a successful Rally Master I have verified proof
that when I tell someone where to go, they actually get there!
