Although Isaac camped out in the Southeast and then made a right hand turn into the Ohio River valley, we were spared at Rennfest. Saturday afternoon was a bit overcast but mild with temperature in the mid 70s. We had a good turnout with 53 teams that signed up for the Rally. At the driver’s meeting, the rallyists were told about the DIYC (Do It Yourself Control), and the regular information of Counties that the Rally route traverses, to drive with your lights on and the most important, to be nice to your Rally partner.

Lewis Broyles and Danny Saxton did a safety check on the Rally cars as they were lining up to pick up their Rally instructions from Carolyn Axt, 10 minutes before their Out-Time. Five teams DNS (Did Not Start), so we had 48 Rally teams that started this Rally.

Checkpoint one Rally workers, Len & BJ Turner, Sue Pollard, Bert Chapman, TJ Kessler and Lynn Kessler left before 2:00pm to set up and open on time. Checkpoint 2 was the DIYC where the Rally teams had to write their own in-time on their scorecards and leave exactly 3 minutes later on the next leg. Checkpoint three Rally workers were, Nancy Frye, Barbara Gellner, Ian & Donna Scott and Tom & Brian Roy. Checkpoint four was back at Brasstown Valley Resort and was staffed by Rob Casey, Clyde Peery, Dick Kjellsen and Chris Gellner. Allan Cox and Don Boggs also helped with the scoring. Because of the DIYC, we had some difficulty with the scoring but we managed just fine. Of the 48 Rally teams, only one DNF (Did Not Finish), Steve & Liz Baum, who had overheating issues. We all hope that they made it back home safely.
