BRAVE COMPANIONS

(To steal a title from a wonderful David McCullough book)

OK! It didn't look good. Almost a half inch of rain came down on Saturday night and Sunday morning, June 10th, the day scheduled for Rally # 1. Fog and mist ruled the rest of the morning till after the start of registration. It seems that the weather scared off half of the teams with reservations so we wound up with only eight cars registered for Rally # 1! Did it scare off the fantastic workers that we need to put on a rally? No way! Our super volunteers included Tom Albee, Lou Broyles, Woody Delong, Jeff and Nancy Frye, Maureen Ringler and Danny Saxton. If these hardy souls are not the very definition of the term "brave companions" then I don't know what would! Plus all of our teams got back to the party!

We expected rain all day but it did not happen. From the start to the end of the rally, then to the awards ceremony, then to the end of the BBQ on our deck, it was dry and delightful. As we were taking our final bites, the first sound of thunder was heard. Two or three bites later we adjourned indoors to have dessert and then say goodbyes. To the fainthearted, you missed one fine day. By the way, if you think that it might rain on your newly washed or Concours Porsche, come rally in your Jeep or whatever else you choose to drive. Don't just not show up, because you will miss one fine experience! A consideration was made to "postpone" the event. If you look at the Peachstate calendar you might find that there is no date available to postpone it to. Some might consider that good, others bad.
