Rally 2 - Witt's End

Last Updated: 08/08/2016, 24:00:00

The weather forecast for Sunday afternoon June 5th indicated a 70% chance of thunder storms, perhaps this scared a few people off. A small group met in Cumming for a challenging TSD rally. Luckily our rally chair, James Lyle, held the weather at bay … in fact we had a partly sunny day that kept the June heat away.

A rally is defined as a timing and logic contest driven on public roads at legal speeds. The object of a rally is to reach various checkpoint locations along a predetermined route at the correct time. The promise of this rally was that it was a very easy rally to get to each checkpoint, but very difficult to get there at the appropriate time. There were two ways to get to each checkpoint with a "trap" on each leg to throw off the experienced rallyist by finding roads, intersections and signs that require the contestant to pay close attention to the Route Instructions in correlation to the definitions prescribed by the General Instructions. The Tour class had the benefits of helpful notes as well as the mileages at every turn to help them navigate the route, while the SOP class had to sort through the logic while driving the speed limit on some enjoyable roads. While it was definitely a challenge, Dale + Abi Rabeneck get special recognition for having the best individual leg score (11 seconds error) and improved their scores in every leg as the rally went on … and the traps got tougher - well done!

Six teams started this rally, and all six teams made it to Witt's End.

Congratulations to Jack + Kathy Baker for winning SOP class and the overall best score, and to Gary + Cindy Tilson for winning the Tour class.
