Staging a Concours in late June places special challenges, especially in terms of the weather, so we are especially blessed to have Hennessy Porsche offer their facility as the site for our summer event. Sunday, 24 June dawned bright and sunny with the promise of a hot and humid day to follow. No matter, as the event would be staged indoors in Hennessy's air-conditioned service area. At 9:15 am, competitors were already lining up to place their autos for the event with judging not scheduled to start until 1:00 pm! As the morning progressed, vehicles poured in until a total of 40 had registered by the time judging commenced. Due to the brilliance of our Technical Chair, Lewis Broyles, and his superior vehicle arranging skills, 38 of the competitors were able to be staged in air-conditioned comfort. (Sorry to the latecomers!)
Personnel from Performance Auto Collision were also on site to prepare and serve lunch to participants and spectators alike with more than 140 people taking advantage of lunch prior to the onset of the competition. Judging commenced after lunch and our four teams worked their way through the large number of vehicles as an interested and engaged group of spectators observed the proceedings.
Our team of scorers then tabulated the results and awards were presented. The ballot count showed that even with the first participation of a 991 at an event, the voters preferences are still with the early vehicles, as Bob Kuchenbecker's 1963 356 cabriolet received the most votes for People's Choice.
Thanks go out to all our volunteers who pitched in to make this event yet another success. Our thanks again to Hennessy Porsche for allowing us the use of their (air conditioned!) facility.
Volunteers: Donna Scott, Nancy Frye, Tory Vornholt, Vickie Witt, Barbara Gellner, Rod Johnson, Brian Roy, Chris Gellner, Tom Allbee, Daryl Goetz, Bob Kuchenbecker, Jack Baker, Lewis Broyles, David Wilhide, Bill Favara, Bill Ibsen, Danny Saxton, Jack McAllister, Mark Sellars, and Haven Riviera. Apologies to anyone omitted.
