Saturday October 14 dawned with overcast skies, but that did not deter 58 people in 31 Porsches from signing in for the Georgia Leaves and lunch tour. One couple did not make it to the sign-in due to car trouble but planned to join us at Amicalola Falls Lodge for lunch anyway. In the end they got there ahead of us, making 60 total participants.

The route took us southwest from Barrett Parkway first going through Hiram before turning north through Rockmart to Rome. Then we proceeded north through an area known as The Pocket on some nice twisty roads in the Chattahoochee National Forest, passing several summer camps along the way. From Dalton we went through Chatsworth and Ellijay passing Fort Mountain State park along the way. We found fall festivals in full swing in Ellijay and surrounding the apple orchards in the area, which tied up traffic. I thank everyone for their patience.

Unfortunately we had one car develop suspected fuel pump issues and another with a flat tire. We really appreciate David Cruickshanks (group 3 sweeper) staying with the vehicle with fuel pump issues until they could get help, even though it meant he got so far behind that he decided to just return to Atlanta. Andy and Alice Anderson (sweeper for group 1), and two other cars stopped to assist with the flat tire and completed the tour after the tire change. This was another example of how the people are what makes this club so strong.

We were a bit late getting to lunch, but the restaurant had been so busy it probably was a good thing we were not there on time. We enjoyed the buffet and view from the lodge before everyone returned to Atlanta on their own.

This was the last tour for 2017, but you can expect some great tours again next year.
