Project Cars 2
Project Cars 2 is the main simulator that we are using. It was chosen because it offers the best custom championship options of all the software that runs on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4. It also comes complete with 11 Porsches and 60 tracks from around the world in one package.
Project Cars 2 comes in two versions, standard and deluxe. Either version is suitable for our sim racing series, the main difference is the deluxe version includes all of the additional content that is released in the future. PC MSRP is $59.99 for the standard version and $89.99 for the deluxe, but they can often be found on sale.
iRacing is the premier online racing platform, but is only available for PC and currently only has one Porsche car available (although a 919 is due in 2018).
iRacing is a subscription service, so for an annual fee you have access to the iRacing servers and any content that you've licenced from them.
To allow voice communication between PC users in Project Cars 2 we use Discord. This is a free download and just requires you to have a microphone.
To make it easier to hear communications over the volume of the cars I'd recommend a headset and set up Discord to use the headset and the game to use your existing speakers. For iRacing we use the built in voice communications and Xbox Project Cars 2 also has built in voice communications, so this is just for PC users in Project Cars 2.
